Join A Garden Club!

Reasons:

Education
By
participating in schools: Gardening Study Courses, Landscape Design Courses, Environmental Schools, Flower Show Schools. 
By supporting scholarships and expanding educational opportunities for our Youth Gardeners.
By being informed of issues concerning our environment.
By being knowledgeable of legislative alerts concerning the conservation of our nation's natural resources.

Personal Enrichment 
By
attaining  meaningful relationships with persons of similar interests.
By discovering the beauty of the floral creativity of our multicultural membership.
By expanding one's knowledge and learning the joy of gardening.
By participating in a hobby that will enhance physical and mental well being.

Community Outreach
By
working with the physically and mentally handicapped adult  population.
By instructing the visually and hearing impaired youth in horticulture, floral design and landscaping.
By working with other members to present a solid, educated front of civic concern for our communities.
By assisting in the revitalization of natural disaster areas.
By preserving and protecting our historic sites for future generations.

            If you are interested in joining a garden club and would like to locate clubs in your area
            please email the GCNC Membership Chairman.

Recruiting:

Publicity, Publicity, Publicity!  Submit pictures and articles to local newspapers.  Garden Club leaders may volunteer for radio or newspaper interviews.  Tout your achievements!
Be visible in your community with signage.  Label your community projects as being done by your garden club.
Make National Garden Week Membership Week by inviting the public to special programs.
Every member pledge to recruit at least one new member within a certain period.
Make visitors welcome to your meetings and functions by assigning a Buddy Member.
Established clubs can sponsor new clubs for specific emphasis groups.
Explore retirement communities and seek landscape and flower arranging  opportunities for able gardeners.
Inform Master Gardeners and Plant Societies of the benefits of being a member of The Garden Club of North Carolina, Inc. and National Garden Club by having access to programs, schools, flower shows, insurance, etc.

Retaining:

List your new members in your state and local publications, giving them the recognition they deserve.
Structure your meetings to meet the needs of your members - lunch, evening, or daytime.
Change the look of Garden Club to unite members with community activities.
Shorten versions of your business meetings.
Provide interesting programs and knowledgeable speakers which are of interest to your members.  Don't forget to include some social time for developing friendships.
Emphasize membership retention as well as recruiting new members and organizing new clubs.
At state and district levels recognize clubs that have acquired new members, and districts that have acquired new clubs.
